Ayurveda"The Ancient Science"

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda Therapy

Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of spiritual medicine, based on the idea of balance in bodily systems. A consciousness based approach to health, Ayurveda recognizes the phenomenal intelligence in every grain, every seed, all life, and every living thing.

Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence of the mind-body connection, the ancient sages of India created Ayurveda which in current times continues to be one of mankind’s most powerful mind-body health systems. A science of life, Ayurveda offers a body of wisdom designed to help people maintain vibrance and health, all while realizing and reaching their full human potential. The two main principles of Ayurveda are that the mind and the body are inextricably connected, and nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind.

Freedom from illness means expanding awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body. Meditation, for example, allows you to effortlessly enter a state of expanded awareness and inner quiet that refreshes the mind and restores balance within the body. Meditation is just one of the powerful tools that ancient Ayurvedic physicians prescribed; many other practices for expanding self-awareness and cultivating your innate state of balance exist today:

  • Understand your unique mind-body type and the specific needs that derive from it
  • Eat a colorful, flavorful diet
  • Get abundant sleep
  • Live in tune with nature
  • Strengthen your digestive power
  • Rest and relax

Overall, the system of medicine called Ayurveda will remove the imbalance of the physical body, while providing the mental clarity needed to change unproductive mindsets.

"The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore, the physician must start from nature with an open mind"

Abhyanga Massage

Abhyanga massage is a traditional and holistic Indian Ayurvedic practice, using organic, herb-infused, aromatic warm oils specially blended to suit your Dosha type. Numerous Ayurvedic techniques are applied to the full body to invigorate and synchronize energy channels. Lymphatic stimulation squeezes out toxic accumulation from these channels, eliminating stored up waste which precipitates disease. Marma Points

The guiding principal of Ayurveda is to prevent disease by harmonizing the bodys rhythm with nature. One way to create this balance and align the bodys healing energies is through marma point massage therapy. Marma is a Sanskrit word that means "hidden", or "secret". A marma point is a juncture on the human body where two or more types of tissue meet (ie. muscles, bones, joints, veins or ligaments). There are 107 marma points ranging in size from one to six inches in diameter. Moreso, marma points are intersections of the vital life force and prana, or breath.

In Ayurvedic medicine, it is believed that marma points house the three pillars of life, otherwise known as the doshas (vata, pitta and kapha). As a person ages, doshic imbalances begin to block the movement of free-flowing energy in the body, resulting in physical and mental discomfort and disease. Marma point massage cleanses blocked energy (chi) by either arousing or calming the doshas, and carries energetic information between the mind and the bodys organs and tissues. Each marma point has three receptors that align with the three doshas; these points are stroked in a deliberate sequence using specific essential oils.
